#PlusBelleMaVie: Marie Forêt's Transition with ESC Clermont BS

As the granddaughter of a lumberjack, Marie Forêt specialized in soil and land science and worked for several years in the field of forestry management and the valorization of wood. In 2019, she will join the MBA – Executive Master in Management at ESC Clermont Business School with the aim of acquiring skills in management and entrepreneurship.

A Change of Path: Interview with Marie Forêt

As head of her own consultancy company, Marie Forêt helps decision-makers, company directors, association leaders and elected representatives disoriented when trying to understand and deal with the ecological crisis, mainly, when it relates to forestry. But how did she get there?

CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN FIVE WORDS?

Curious, enthusiastic, sensitive, persevering, empathetic.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO CHANGE YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?

For 15 years, I had the opportunity to launch several agricultural and forestry projects bringing together actors who were often very different, sometimes with opposing interests. Working on the forest seemed virtuous by nature, but it is not so simple. Faced with today’s challenges, there is a lot to be invented, by stepping outside one’s own field and linking activities that are unknown to each other. These challenges made me want to go in a new direction.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CAREER PATH AT ESC CLERMONT BS?

In addition to my basic training as an agricultural engineer, I needed to acquire skills in management and entrepreneurship. With this in mind, I started the MBA – Executive Master in Management, in September 2019, 1 week per month, for 18 months. Intense, but perfect to mature a new professional project in parallel and test it. I followed the Purchasing & Supply Chain Management specialization, in order to enrich my knowledge on the subject, on the (re)localization of production, the environmental and social stakes of purchasing… A short passage through the SquareLab Open Incubator helped me to specify in which direction I wanted to go.

WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY OF YOUR TRAINING SO FAR?

It’s hard to pick just one. The whole course is a torrent of discoveries, meetings, questioning, learning… and work! The courses on the Anthropocene and ecological redirection were quite unexpected and exciting, even if essential in the current context of ecological emergency.

AN ANECDOTE?

A beautiful caterpillar that we formed during the courses on leadership and creativity that testifies to the quality of human relationships and exchanges during the training.
