AI & Data: Two Fields to Explore with Marie Crappe
A graduate of HEC Paris (Master in Management), Télécom ParisTech (Engineer’s Degree, specializing in Data Science), and École Polytechnique (Master of Research), Marie Crappe serves as an affiliated professor at ESC Clermont Business School. She engages with students in modules related to data analysis and the business applications of artificial intelligence.
After an academic journey combining engineering and management, Marie began her career as a Data Scientist in the public transportation sector (RATP, SNCF). She later became the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of StaffMe, A startup revolutionizing the job market by connecting freelancers with job offers through a fully digital platform. Following this, she focused on team and project management in the data field, holding the position of Head of Data Science & Analytics at Veepee and now serving as the Head of Data at Choose.
Passionate about building tech teams and managing data projects that bring direct business value, especially through artificial intelligence, Marie is now independent. She provides consulting or training services to a diverse range of companies, from startups to multinationals, in the fields of data and AI. ESC Clermont Business School and the students of the bachelor’s program in Digital Communication & E-Business are fortunate to benefit from her extensive expertise to enhance their skills in these two essential domains.
Dynamic and Immersive Interventions
Ever heard of Excel? It’s challenging to captivate audiences with a course on pivot tables, yet it’s essential to know how to use this tool and explore its features when dealing with data. Marie spends a considerable amount of time training students on the tool and, more broadly, on data analysis and developing their critical thinking. To capture students’ attention and make learning engaging and practical, her course is entirely based on hands-on experience. She particularly offers an Excel challenge over a day—a team-based game, similar to an escape room, that revisits and explores many features. Coded messages, images to decipher, anomalies to find in the data, spies to identify… This unconventional format aligns with the active pedagogy promoted by the School.
Is Artificial Intelligence just Chat GPT? Yes, but not only! It is precisely to delve deeper into the topic that Marie conducts 24 hours of classes to address this theme and, notably, explore the ethical challenges of AI. The goal of this course is both to understand the theoretical foundations and mechanisms at play in AI and to raise awareness among students about the opportunities and threats posed by this technology. Beyond fostering students’ critical thinking, she wants them to become aware of their exposure to algorithms and the impact of these algorithms on their daily lives.
